It's A Girl!

On Friday December 21, we had the ultrasound to find out what we will be having.  Cortlynn was in school so she couldn't go-but Devin and the other two were there.  The entire time-Tristan kept saying how he wanted it to be a boy.  Well--turns out it is a girl.  We didn't tell him right away, but when he came over to me while I was laying there and asked me, "Mom-what is it, is it a Boy?"  I told him no-it is a girl.  He got the biggest tears in his eyes and his lip started to quiver..."But mom-I wanted a brother"......   I felt so bad for him.  He got over his disappointment when we told him he wouldn't have to share his room and that we will take him to McDonald's for a Happy Meal.  Not sure which of those statements got him out of his funk.

Baby girl is yawning

Check out those legs:there is no "fetal" position with this one.  I also think we have another dancer in the family.

Influenza=STAY HOME!

The last week and a half has been somewhat stressful and the last 5 days is no exception.  Saturday afternoon Kyra started coughing--it was quite croupy and I knew that it would be a long night.  That was such an understatement.  Devin finally took her downstairs on the couch to see if that helped her breathe.  Her cough got worse, fever came on, and her breathing was very raspy. Sunday was a bad day for her and we just stayed home.  On Monday she had to go to the doctor in Idaho Falls for a follow-up blood test (whole other post) so I called and scheduled an appointment to get her checked out.  Kyra was in no mood and holding her down for the strep test, flu test, and the medicine they gave her to open her airways-made her disposition that much worse.  When the doctor came back and told me she tested positive for influenza--I was sad for her but relieved that at least I knew what was wrong.  Since the lab tech wasn't there to draw the blood--I had to take her to the Hospital.  The last thing I wanted to do--hold her down for yet another thing she will scream thru.

She has been on Tamiflu since Monday night and she is so miserable.  Kyra wants to be held constantly and I mean CONSTANTLY.  At night I've just put her in bed with me since she wants to make sure someone is by her 24/7.  Last night she was awake every hour and her fever was the highest it has been all week.  BUT-she would still look at me, try to smile, and say Hi-.

I'm pretty sure I know when and where she caught it and I'm trying not to be negative about it--but it is quite hard.  I'm exhausted and with hardly any sleep I lay awake listening to her cough and cry while I'm bitterly thinking how I wish people that are sick would just stay home.  If you have a nasty cough with a fever and chills on top of it---PLEASE stay HOME!!!!!  Don't go to church, don't go to the store, don't attend a work party, don't go to any place that may have other people there---which may include pregnant women, little children, and seniors.  Nothing is so important to go outside of your home when you are sick and possibly infect other individuals.

So far Kyra is the only one that is sick--but I have been keeping the other 2 kids away from her.  Not too fun for them; in fact their Christmas break has been very boring this week.  I hope no one else gets this and I pray Kyra will start to get better.  Nothing is worse than when your children are sick and there really isn't anything you can do to help them but hold them.  She's too young to understand that the medicine is to help her, that she needs to drink liquids, and that she will eventually get better.  Nope--I just sit and cuddle with her, cry when she cries, and try to nap when she naps.  It's got to get better, right.  ;-}
